Services Definition and Fee Schedule

Last updated and effective: 1 January 2014.

The Ottawa Internet Exchange strives to maintain costs as a not-for-profit corporation, run by volunteers while meeting a best efforts level of service. However, operational costs are a fact of life and cannot be avoided. This fee schedule, determined by the OttIX Board, helps OttIX keep costs to a minimum. Costs can include maintenance of corporate records, creation of marketing materials and costs related to staff, office and meeting facilities.

The following services are included in the pricing for access to OttIX:

  • Access to the members-only Portal, to manage contact, billing info, IX configuration and documentation;
  • Access to operational and members-only mailing lists;
  • Use of the OttIX programmable dual-route server architecture, which more that 95% of member peers use to exchange routes to ease maintenance;
  • Use of the NTP stratum 1 infrastructure for time-sync purposes;
  • Read/write access as well as peering to the OttIX USENET news server, including full-feeds.
  • Deployment of any IP protocol version: IPv4 unicast and multicast as well as IPv6 unicast and multicast
  • OttIX critical IX infrastructure services such as anycasted instances of f.root-servers.net as well as PCH's anycast DNS cloud.

There are two charges that will appear in an invoice issued by OttIX at initial connection: A non-recurring installation charge and a yearly port fee. Invoicing occurs once a year at the beginning of the calendar year.
